Comparison between Topical and Injection Anesthetics on Pain Related to Orthodontic Miniscrew Placement: A Split-mouth Study

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to compare the anesthetic effect a lidocaine/prilocaine (L/P) topical with placebo on pain from needle sticks and L/P an infiltrative orthodontic miniscrew placement. MATERIALS METHODS Pain elimination was analyzed two interventions: (a) stick (b) insertion. When assessing stick, one side mandible received 2.5% lidocaine/2.5% prilocaine anesthetic, other placebo. evaluating placement, anesthetic. findings recorded Visual Analogue Scale after Subjective assessment by questionnaire. RESULTS significantly eliminated (Mann-Whitney test medians, 29.0 vs 0.0, respectively, p<0.001).
